Delivery
Once you have created your story how do you share it with the
world, or at least the people in your school.
CD-ROM
(700 MB)
The benefit
of delivering content on a CD-ROM is that it is cheap, portable
and is not reliant on bandwidth. The downside is that it can
not be updated . Any changes require the creation and
distribution
of a
new
CD.
DVD (1.4+ Gig)
This appears
to be the future of disc-based content distribution. New software
such as iDVD have made authoring for DVD a reasonable proposition.
Same benefits and issues found with CDs except DVDs contain
much more material and can be played on consumer DVD players.
Weblog or Blog
This is the
hottest thing going on the web.Basically it is a way for people
to keep a web based diary of their lives without having to
learn html. The downside is that they are primarily text based.
Example: Blogger.com
Web The web allows
you to distribute your story to anyone who has an Internet
connected computer. The primary limitations here include access
to a web server, some knowledge of web page authoring, and
bandwidth.
Examples
Getting Word: the Monticello African American Oral History
Project
Pyramids the Inside Story
Becoming
Human
Arizona Learning
Interchange
Most of the
same limitations as the web, but AZLI provides the hosting
and takes away the need to know html. The goal of AZLI is to
develop a library/clearinghouse of innovative programs and
classrtoom practices. If you are interested in creating an exhibit
pleas eMail me.
